Periostal Stem Cell Identification May Lead to New Bone Healing Strategies

Published 2020-01-06

Researchers at Baylor University let by Dr. Dongsu Park have recently been able to characterize Periostal Stem Cells which may have an impact on bone healing. Previously, Periostal Stem Cells were only identified as a heterogenous body of cells. Dr. Park and his team were able to specifically characterize different subpopulations of Periostal Stem Cells as well as specific factors involved in the proliferation and migration (chemokine CCL5) of this unique Stem Cell population. The study is published in the Journal Cell Stem Cell.
