First Clinical Use of CRISPR in the U.S.

The first clinical use of genetic cell manipulation using CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) technology has been performed in the United States. A patient with Sickle Cell Anemia received autologous CRSPR edited Red Blood Cells producing fetal hemoglobin following chemotherapy at Sarah Cannon Research Institute in Nashville, Tennessee.
